Review | Mentholatum Organic Raspberry & Strawberry Lip Balm

Lip balms and chapped lips go together like peanut butter and jelly (or you know, better, pisang goreng and cheese lol). My lips get dry and cracked very easily no matter how many litres of water I drink throughout the day. So covering my lips with a balm or ointment is very important to me but finding it, is actually a harder task that it may initially seem.

I won't deny that I'm a bit particular on what will I have on my lips because I tend to forget to wipe off my lipstick or gloss or balm whatever when I have my meal and drink (because by doing so is literally ingesting the lip products). I'm also one of those rare people who dislike having stuff on their lips and that's why I have never fancied lip products much for that same reason.

But, oh well. Who doesn't need a lip balm? It's essential. I thought of going for more natural and organic-based without too much of artificial ingredients. This leads me to the Organic Raspberry & Strawberry Lip Balm by Mentholatum. Bought it for RM20.99 at Tesco, it's pretty expensive compared to other lip balms but we don't have a lot of choices here, don't we?

So it says;
1) 98% Organic Ingredients- using organic ingredients grown organically with organic certification. (amboi tongue twister betul)
2) Organic Moisture Ingredients- enriched with moisturising organic ingredients, suitable even for sensitive lips.
3) 3-Eco Mission- free from harsh chemicals, colourants and preservatives, no animal testing, eco-friendly package.
4) Low Irritation- no paraben, no colourant, no harsh chemical ingredients, no animal ingredients, no artificial flavour ingredients.

To confirm these claims, we need to look further into the ingredients;

I love the simplicity of these ingredients. They are all pretty basic with none of them are nasty. Just in case you're not familiar with Tocopherol, it's actually another name for Vitamin E and it helps to extend the life of the lip balm.

Most of the ingredients are sourced from renowned organic farms.
- Organic Jojoba Oil (Argentina)
Organic Beeswax (Primitive Forest in Africa)
- Organic Olive Oil (Spain)
- Organic Coconut Oil (Columbia)
- Organic Shea Butter (Africa)

Scent and finishing- This yellow-colored balm smells like strawberry. I know there's a raspberry flavour in it, but it doesn't smell like one. I believe there's another flavour in the line which is the "Lavender & Orange" but I can't seem to find one in our local pharmacies. The balm is colourless, pretty much a unisex product as it doesn't leave any tint to your lips (well not all guys prefer wearing tinted lip balm, right?).

Texture and application- It's soft, but still solid looking inside the stick. Usually I notice that natural and organic lip balms tend to melt even at normal room temperature but this doesn't! :D Of course, the beeswax is essential to make it stiff. And because of the same reason, some people are concerned on how beeswax-based balms tend to have dry and hard texture. Thankfully it doesn't happen- thanks to the oils, it is, in fact, glides on the lips very smoothly and make it easy to apply. I must say, however, if you're someone who doesn't like the feeling of lip balm being gooey all over your lips, then this might not be for you because it's sticky a bit lah

Next, let's talk about the moisturisation. For most of the time, I will apply the lip balm before going to bed and I find that it does keep my lips feeling soft and moisturised when I wake up the next morning. I like it, but to me, it's just not emollient enough. I've used tinted balm from Maybelline before, although it's not long lasting as Mentholatum Organic Lip Balm, the Maybelline ones give me the softest lips I desired.

Overall, like it, and will repurchase. I'm going to give this balm a score of 4/5. Most importantly, all the ingredients are 100% natural and I don't have to worry much sipping my drinks while wearing it.

Haha, I do agree! This mentholatum lip balm is ingredient friendly but Maybelline (especially the Baby Lips Electro balms) give more moisture to the lips :D

Hi there, just discovered your blog. Although it is 2 years late, but I have a recommendation! It's MooGoo (Cow Lick Lip Balm). I have use this Mentholatum Organic before, but still prefer MooGoo's. I think the later feels more moisturizing.
