Okay guys, today's post is going to be this one foundation that I absolutely adore, but sadly, forgotten.
Why?
Read more to find out.
Happy September!! I finally able to publish this post after having it sitting in the draft for quite some time. Just so you know, my current goal is to finish writing what I'm supposed to finish before starting a brand new review, dah bertimbun sangat dah ni post dekat draft.
Revlon Colorstay Foundation isn't anything new to the market, so I know there are heaps of review on it out there. The foundation already a well-known drugstore product and has achieved cult-like status for many people but another review wouldn't kill a soul, right?? ;P
Dulu-dulu masa noob pasal makeup ni, I remember walking into the drugstore with my friend, Ain and asked for a suggestion, she shoved me the Revlon foundation and said, "you need to have this, it is the best one out there". She was right. Although I barely use it these days, it's still one of the best foundation I've tried in my life.
What it is?
Long-wearing coverage with Time Release Technology and a lightweight formula that won't cake, fade, or rub off. Specially made for combination or oily skin to control oil absorption and shine.
Claims
- Comfortable, shine-free finish for up to 20 hours
- 20 beautiful, long-wearing shades
- Buildable to full coverage
Packaging
No one likes the packaging of this foundation. It comes in a glass bottle that makes it heavy. Out of the 3 bottles I own, 2 of them ended up with the black, plastic lid broken. Just like NARS Foundation I've reviewed earlier, Revlon Colorstay Foundation only pours out, with no pump. If I pour it too much, I either have to put it back into the bottle, which is unsanitary, or just wasting it off by wiping the excess on a tissue.
Ingredients
I'm not sure if the following is their recent ingredients. I have a bottle of Revlon Colorstay Foundation I bought in 2011 (I keep it for review purpose) and it has a different formula than my other 2 bottles from my recent bought. Noticed from my picture that the SPF content is also different; it used to be SPF6, but now it's SPF15.
Cyclopentasiloxane, Aqua, Dimethicone, Trimethylsilxysilate, PEG-9, Butylene Glycol, tribehenin, Phenyl Trimethicone, Nylon-13, Orchid Flower Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment Extract, Lullum Candidum Bulb Extract, Mallow Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Bisabolol, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Alcohol Denat, Alumina, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Methicone, Laureth-7, Magnesium Sulfate, Silica, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Ethylene Brassylate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Dimethicone Copolymer, PEG-12 Glyceryl Dimyristate, Salicylic Acid, Silk Powder, Sodium Citrate, Dipropylene Glycol, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Silk, Tetrasodium EDTA, Hexylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylparaben, Methylparaben, Mica, Titanium Dioxide and Iron Oxides.
Scent
The foundation is formulated without a fragrance, which is good! But the actual scent it giving definitely not in everyone's cup of tea. It smells very chemical-ish, I'm not really sure how to explain.
Application
To me, one pump of the foundation is already enough to achieve a good looking skin. Fret not, it's buildable, just like the claim said so. The consistency is quite thick, so it has the tendency to look cakey if I apply it too much. Most of the time I'll use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush to sheer out the foundation and I really take my time to blend or else it would end up looking streaky. I'd also like to point out that this foundation stain brushes the most!
Formula/Texture
Comes in 2 formulations; Normal/Dry and Combination/Oily.
Unfortunately, Revlon only made the latter available in Malaysia. The newest formulation has a thicker, creamier consistency than the older ones. It's not lightweight! So kalau awak tak selesa rasa macam pakai heavy makeup, I'd not recommend kot!
Colour Range/Foundation Shades
20 shades on the official website. Revlon only offers 5 shades in my country (OMG WHYYYY), they are;
-180 Sand Beige
-200 Nude
-310 Warm Golden
-340 Early Tan
-370 Toast
... and NONE OF THEM SUIT ME (which also explain the reason why I own 3 bottles of it, lol).
Nude is tad pinkish for my skin but the colour matches me a little after it's oxidised. Warm Golden is too warm and orange-ish on me, I think it would look great if you have a tan on. And nope! don't even try to ask how did I ended up buying the Early Tan shade. Don't do that, haha.
Finish/Coverage
I'd say Revlon Colorstay is a medium to full coverage foundation. And because of that, it feels thick on your skin. Thur feeling of makeup tebal, get it? :) I only need a pump to archive the full coverage look and I'm satisfied how it conceals all my blemishes and redness. It dries matte and I say, I love how this foundation photographs me very well! I have the same opinion whenever I'm using Make Up For Ever foundation. The internet says Revlon Photoready would be a great dupe for MUFE. While I haven't tried that, I feel like the Colorstay Foundation can archive the same flawless finishing and makes my skin looks good when photographed. I love it. I'm also guessing that the SPF 15 content wouldn't be an issue since SPF can be a con because of the white cast it created.
Longevity
It's good for long wearing. With the heat and humidity, I find myself having a blot around the afternoon (if I wear it with UD setting spray) and it's pretty much lasted all day long. Setting spray does help a lot tbh, without one, this Colorstay Foundation stays on me for 3-4 hours before my face started to get oily and the foundation moves around. I must say it stays the longest on my skin though than my other foundation. It's also a transfer-resistant and that already makes a good point since I'm wearing hijab.

Now, remember earlier I said this is a long forgotten foundation? It is indeed because of few reasons. I used to prefer wearing a full coverage foundation, but now not anymore, and that is why I like my Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation better. Also, the newest formulation doesn't really do a kind job to my skin. It stings immediately and feels uncomfortable although it doesn't break me out. Nevertheless, in general, I'm still pleasantly surprised by the foundation. It's definitely one of the first drugstore foundations that has so many things I like about. Would I repurchase? Probably not because it doesn't offer my actual shade and I found a better foundation. Would I recommend? 100% YES, especially for oily skinned girl/boy out there!! Rating; 4.5/5. That's high!
I'm sure a lot of you have tried this foundation. What are your takes? Share with me by commenting below! :D
