"Bokeh? Bokeh ni apa?" tanya saya tanpa segan pilu.
"Bokehlah, benda-benda photography ni kau mana tau" jawab Haziq tanpa menoleh, lalu terus memetik butang shutter pada camera.
Cis, kurang ajar, konon pro lah tu. Saya tahulah saya newbie. Kamera pun baru sahaja dibeli di Plaza Lowyat dengan menggunakan wang simpanan di tabung. Tidak sampai dua bulan usianya. Saya tidak terus patah semangat, lalu bertanyakan kembali kepada Haziq.
"Seriuslah Ziq, it already sounds like bongek to me"
Haziq ketawa sambil menggeleng perlahan kepalanya. Saya menjeling sekilas. Nasib baik muka awak macam Hugh Grant ketika remaja. Handsome, fangirling saya sebentar. Tidak jadi untuk marah. Eh serupa Azwan Kombos pun ada! Terkeliru saya. Mungkin Hugh Grant lebih sedikit, mungkin.
"Hoi!" Haziq memetik jari tangannya di depan muka saya. Saya tersentak. Hampir kantoi. Sebentar ya pembaca sekalian, kantoi ini legit Bahasa Melayu ke? Saya keliru lagi. Damn, my Malay writing is getting rusty.
"Bokeh ni asalnya Japanese term for out-of-focus, blurred effect yang kau akan dapat kalau guna wide aperture, ala macam lens 50 mm 1.8"
"Oh" Jawab saya perlahan. Haziq tersenyum nipis. Kami berjalan pulang ke kereta.
Bukaan apertur yang luas. Got it.
Haziq terus menerangkan kepada saya tentang Bokeh. Bagaimana mendapatkan Bokeh yang cantik dan sebagainya. Saya diam sahaja, sesekali menganguk perlahan tanda faham walaupun saya masih kurang pasti apakah itu lens 50 mm 1.8. Maksud saya, macam mana dia ukur? F1.4? F1. 9? Ha, kitlens? Mod manual atau aperture priority? Oh ubah shutter speed. Saya mengerutkan dahi. Masih cuba fokus mendengar penerangan kawan baik saya ini. Sesekali Haziq menguakkan rambutnya ke belakang.
Canon EF 85mm? Wait what, I don't know that. Hello, saya newbie di sini. Hati kecil saya memberontak. Saya menarik nafas panjang sebelum melepaskannya perlahan. Baiklah, saya semakin tidak faham.
"If ada lights or bright highlights dekat out-of-focus area, they normally show up in circular shapes, kalau guna new lens lah, sebab ada nine rounded blades. Kalau ada filters, waktu malam try shoot gambar with celebration lights or even traffic lights? cantik awak, kalau ambil gambar macam tu" kata Haziq lagi.
Awak. AWAK. Haziq panggil saya, awak.
"Haziq, aku tak fahamlah. Kau guna bahasa senang sikit boleh tak?" kata saya sambil tersengih.
"Ah sudah" ujar Haziq pantas lalu terus masuk ke dalam kereta. Susah betul borak dengan orang seperti saya ini. Curious bebenau, tapi malas hendak buat Yahoo Search.
WAIT, AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR YAHOO. #teamgoogle.

Laughs (as I read again what I wrote). Idk, I just did. XD
Anyway, today DIY is custom bokeh filter. It's a case or cardboard that cover your camera lens with a little cut out - simple heart, star, swirl, diamond, snowflake (basically anything)
I've seen pictures created using this simple DIY camera trick and couldn't resist testing it myself.
You'll need:
- a cardboard, or a dark piece of paper. I used cereal cardboard.
- fun shape hole punch
- pencil, scissor and maybe some tape.
Cut circle out of the paper as big as the lens and have fun punching the center of it with decorative punch. Or you can trace your design and cut it out, just make sure it is small.
Tape it or you can hold it up to your lens when you are shooting. Simple as that, y a y.
I need to refine a bit more, but here are some of the result;

Give it a try! Remember that the shapes only appear when the lens is thrown completely out of focus. Also you can put the manual focus on something very close to the camera, as close as you can get without the object being blur so the background will be blur. I used Aperture Priority mode and set it to the lowest number I got. (Low number -> wide aperture)
Till then. Nak pergi borak dengan Haziq lah. Kahkah.
xoxo.
