Review | Maybelline The Rocket Volum'Express Mascara

I'm so behind the hype, but let's do this - my takes on Maybelline The Rocket Volum' Express Mascara
Since beginning of the year, many bloggers and youtubers rave about this mascara as one of their drugstore holy grail. It took me a while to jump onto this because I've been pretty happy with mascaras I have so far, and also the price is somewhat expensive. It's RM39.90 in Malaysia while you can get it for USD5.49 at Walmart. *cry*
and and and also, I wasn't a mascara hoarder........... until recently. LOL. I finally seen the light, it's amazing what mascara can do to open my eyes.

Anyway, today I'll be reviewing this mascara that I have for a while. I got mine in April when Guardian was having 'buy 1 free 1' on selected items. (yes I took so long before posting this review up, lol).

I've noticed that it doesn't have the similar packaging as the US. Here it comes as shown in the picture. Unlike the ones from oversea where the wand is separated from the tube. I don't even know if this mascara I have here comes with pink coloured wand. ;P . I really like the colour combination of electric blue and purple-ish pink on it's packaging, they really compliment well. The tube is huge, chubby, and literally looks like a rocket.

The bristles / wand reminds me of Benefit They're Real Mascara - spikey silicone bristles, or as what Maybelline called them 'patented supersonic brush with micro bristles to load on big, sleek volume instantly'. The wand itself is massive! So need to be extra careful when applying as you may end up with mascara all over your eyelids.

Notices that they are getting shorter towards the end of the wand? I think it's a perfect size for reaching the inner part of your eyelashes. This type of bristle also helps to coat lashes properly and separated them without easily getting clumps. However, it's not clump-free as what it's claimed for. Spidery lashes still exist y'all after several coats.

This mascara has a wet, and sticky formula. I haven't had any issues with the formula smearing or smudging. Sounds good eh? If you're cautious then you would want to try the waterproof version (unfortunately it isn't available in Malaysia). Because of it's wet formula, the mascara always gets up on the tip of the wand - like in the picture above. It bothers me a lot! I think it's such a waste of product as I'll end up wiping the excess on the tube and it will dries up.

The Rocket Volum'Express and The Magnum Volum'Express side by side with the latter being my favourite mascara from Maybelline so far.

My final verdicts / performance - definitely not my favourite mascara. I'll probably get round using this tube up but I don't think I'll be repurchasing it again, offer or not. My biggest regret about this mascara is the fact that it makes my eyelashes stick to each other when I blink. It gives volume, but doesn't curls up my lashes as much as my other mascaras. I still see this as a turn off. :(
For being a washable mascara, Maybelline The Rocket is indeed very stubborn, and hard to remove but comes off easily with oil-based makeup remover.
I'd not recommend this to people who likes to gradually build up their mascara as it's not a clump-free. Nevertheless, I still love using this for my lower lashes. It makes them long and separated!

There are still a lot of mascara in my local pharmacies that I want to try. Maybelline Volum'Express The Rocket Mascara is still reign the mascara kingdom as far as I'm concerned but I'll still be keeping up my quest to find the perfect ones! (if such a thing exists).

Some claim that Maybelline makes the best mascara among drugstore brands. Idk about that since there are lots of mascaras I haven't tried. I'd really want to try the korean ones!

This is actually my favourite mascara :p
I don't have an issue with clumping, and since I already have long lashes I always look for something volumizing and this mascara actually gives me the volume i'm looking for - thick but still somewhat natural looking. I love the bristles! The tiny ones are perfect for the lashes in the inner corners of my eyes and I'm generally happy with the wand itself.
Still, I loved reading your review :)

Really?!! I wonder it's because the different formula we have here compared to western countries. Maybelline's Rocket may not be my favourite mascara, but I always bring it with me for travelling. :D For now, I really like Benefit's They're Real Mascara and the one in pink packaging from Essence, I think it's called I Love Extreme. :D :D

I have no idea what the western formula is like, but I live in Lebanon so I think we may have similar, if not the same formula! We used to have Essence here but the shop closed down :( Same with NYX, which sucks. I have a mini Benefit's They're Real and I keep that for emergencies!
