Review | Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Today's post is all about the well-raved drugstore foundation by Bourjois called the Healthy Mix. The one that I have here is the original version of the foundation, there's also a serum version that I've yet to try.

So yes, I finally have gotten around to purchase a bottle of it a few months ago at Watsons when I discovered that they carry Bourjois Cosmetics. God knows how long I've been wanting to try the foundation but couldn't get my hands on it since Bourjois wasn't available in Malaysia until recently. I heard that the Bourjois Healthy Mix is a dupe for Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation? Makes sense though, since Bourjois and Chanel are sibling companies.

If you click the picture above and enlarge it you would be able to tell roughly how much each of the Bourjois products cost in Malaysia. Bourjois is originated from France and the brand is pronounced as 'bo-jouar/borj-wah' (correct me if I'm wrong). In Malaysia, it's available at Watson and Tangs.

Claims
- Radiance Boost
- Leave the skin looking flawless for up to 16 hours

My Trial Period
6 months, almost every day.

Packaging
A colourless glass bottle that comes with a pump dispenser. I appreciate that a lot for hygienic purpose. Travel-friendly? Not so. I always depot mine into a small container.

Ingredients
Aqua, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butylene Glycol, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Chloride, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Tocopheryl Acetate, Alcohol Denat, Parfum, Propylene Glycol, Panthenol, Aluminium Hydroxide, Silica, Glycerin, Apple Fruit Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Melon Extract, Apricot Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Benzoic Acid, Pantolactone, Sorbic Acid, [+,-] Titanium Dioxide, Mica, Iron Oxides and Ultramarines.

The key ingredients according to Bourjois are the fruit extracts;
-Apricot for radiance
-Melon for hydration
-Apple to protect youth

Note that Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation does not contain SPF so it fails to offer any sort of sun protection during the day.

Scent
Strong apricot, rose-ish scent that disappears soon after application. To me, the scent is simply to die for, it smells so good! As you can see from the ingredient list above, the foundation does contain fragrance and alcohol but so far, none of them are causing me any breakouts.

Texture
Thick, creamy texture which I think it makes the application easier. It stays on put when I pumped out several amounts of foundation on the back of my hands. I always use  Real Techniques Buffing Brush to blend out the foundation. From what I read on various blogs, a lot of other bloggers recommend it to use with RT Miracle Complexion Sponge, but I can't really say much about it as I do not own the sponge.

Coverage
I would say it's light to (not quite solid) medium coverage. This foundation definitely has less coverage than Revlon Colorstay, but it's still buildable. I like how the foundation doesn't emphasize my big pores. One pump is enough to even out my skintone and cover the redness I have on my cheek areas.

Finish
On my skin, I would describe it as semi-matte...or semi dewy? I think it's a bit more dewy, just like what Bourjois claimed, "radiance". However, the finish can be easily mattified with a bit of setting powder on top.

Colour Range / Foundation Shades
I know it's available in 8 shades but there are only 4 shades available so far in my country. 51 (Light Vanilla), 52 (Vanilla), 53 (Light Beige) and 55 (Dark Beige).

Swatch in natural light, without primer

I bought mine in the shade 53 after the jaw line test indoor and my initial thought went like, 'oh this is my skin but better look' kind of foundation. But it turned out a little darker for me in harsh natural light a.k.a outdoor. And not to ignore the fact that this foundation oxidises, so I look kinda funny sometimes with my face 2-3 shades darker than my hand. Just for reference, my MAC foundation shade is NC25-30.

Longevity
Bourjois claims of 16 hours of staying power. Living in a sunny and humid country, I get oily in my t-zone area after 3-4 hours of application if I don't wear a primer underneath or set my makeup with setting spray. It tends to fade at the end of the day. Nevertheless, Healthy Mix Foundation is kind of foundation where I don't feel the need of blotting or touch up my face frequently as other drugstore foundations I've tried. I do think girls with dry skin will love this foundation for its staying power!

All in all, I loved Healthy Mix Foundation and swore by it to all my friend. This foundation is worth the hype, in my opinion. I even brain-washed my best friend, Fatimah and she ended up buying a bottle of this. Hehe. If there's one thing I dislike about this foundation is the oxidation. So, be careful while selecting the shade.

I'd definitely repurchase, probably in one shade lighter than I have now and mix both shades together. While that, I know I've got my eyes on L'Oreal True Match Foundation- which I've tried years ago and it wasn't really a pleasant experience. I'd also like to try the serum version of Healthy Mix Foundation.

What's your favourite high-street/pharmacy/drugstore foundation? :D

My favorite drugstore foundation right now is the 2B CC cream :) it's really affordable and is very similar to the Bourjois Healthy mix, only that it's thicker in consistency and the Bourjois one feels more luxurious for obvious reasons :D

Thanks Amy! I'd definitely recommend you to try this out, (and Loreal True Match Foundation - because I've heard a lot of good reviews on it) but this really does leave the flawless finish on skin. :D

kalau tak salah, dekat aeon tu ada shade 51, 53, and 55 (?). I could be wrong, sebab dah keliru w/ healthy mix serum. tapi both of them memang kurang 1 shade dekat situ. Sobs!

Interesting! Is 2B an Euro brand? It could take some time before it reached asian's market (or at least, my country..because everything is pretty late here, haha) ;D

It does! :D give it a try, you're going to love the smell (and hopefully, the foundation too)! Hehe. I haven't tried MUFE foundation but it already on my wishlist. Heard so much raves about it.. high coverage, suitable for oily skin.. Sounds like my kind of foundation! Really need to check on it the next time I'm in Sephora. :D

I've been wanting to try this foundation for a while, but have always played it safe with what I know works, just so I don't have to spend extra money haha! After seeing how it blends on your hand so well, it looks so reliable, but of couse unlike you I'll have to get the lightest shade because I'm so so pale :D Great review!

Do you think the shade 55 has a yellow undertone?

ieyra h. said...

Hi Nik Nadiya, :) yes, personally I think most of the Bourjois healthy mix (if not, all) comes in warm, yellowish undertones. Shade 55 is dark beige, I think it would be a good match if you're NC35 in Mac. :D
