Review | L'Occitane Angelica Hydra Vital Gel

I have been using Angelica Hydra Vital Gel from L'Occitane for over 7 months now as my daily moisturiser and that should be long enough for me to do a review on this product. It claims to give instant and intense hydration to skin - up to 24 hours. I have an oily-combination skin, which is why I choose this instead of their cream moisturiser from the same range. I also have with me a bottle of Angelica Face Toner and I will be reviewing it in a separate post.

Anyway, I was indeed looking for a new moisturiser and I thought of going for a gel type. After finishing the sample version of Angelica Hydra Vital Gel I redeemed from L'Occitane, I quickly went back to to the nearest boutique to purchase its full size.

First impression - It's so lightweight and refreshing! I have been on the search of a moisturiser that doesn't make my face feeling greasy and sweating. Could this be the right one?

What L'Occitane says on their website,

Angelica Hydra Vital Gel comes in a 50ml almost transparent glass bottle with a silver lid. The design makes it looks pretty, exclusive and expensive. It feels sturdy but heavy at the same time since the glass packaging is very thick. I accidentally dropped the bottle from a higher place yet it still looked good as new. Since it doesn't come with a build in pump, it can be a little unhygienic as ones need to dig in fingers into the jar just to scoop out some product. I'd suggest to use spatula or transfer the gel into smaller container.

Opening it up you're able to see a pale green gel that that has a thin consistency and not so runny that it goes everywhere. It completely turns to a colourless and watery when applied. Application is easy - just apply the product onto face and neck after cleansing the skin. Since this moisturiser has no SPF formula, I've been using this strictly for my night routine. After cleansing and toning, I just need a fingertip of this gel enough for the whole face. It contains alcohol derived from natural ingredient which I believe that is what gives the cooling effect once you have this applied (or I could be wrong, haha).

Angelica Hydra Vital Gel soaked into my skin very quickly, just within seconds! I like the fact that this gel doesn't feel sticky AT ALL and when it gets absorbed completely, there is no greasiness feeling or any residue left behind. It is surprisingly moisturising despite being a gel.

The smell is refreshing and herbally, but it can be too overwhelming if you have sensitive nose like I do. So far Angelica Hydra Vital Gel doesn't give me any spots or break outs but sometimes I do feel the burning sensations which lasted on me for few seconds.

I actually went back to L'Occitane, asked them some questions and figured out it happened because my face was extremely dry on certain days due to lack of hydration and from toning process. They suggested me to stop using the hydrating gel if the burning sensations lasted for few minutes (which also means the ingredients aren't suitable with my skin) but in my case, it didn't ;)

Those people with dry skin and prefer intense moisturising effect would probably dislike this product but for oily or combination skin, the gel works like wonder.

Bottom line, highly recommended for oily to combination skin. A gel formula in general won't make you look too oily even if you start to break a sweat. Some face creams I've tried before weirdly made my face sweat on my forehead and upper lips, but this doesn't.

L'Occitane claimed that this hydrating gel gives natural glow, revitalized the look, supple the skin and complexion looks fresher after several weeks of constant applications. I'm not sure if I could agree completely but I have nothing to complain. For the price range, it's a bit on the pricier side that I would probably not going to purchase it again but since I'm extremely satisfied and happy with the results, I might continue to have this as my moisturiser.

What do you think? Have you tried this? If you have oily-combination skin, what's your holy grail moisturising products? :)
Thank you for reading this entry, and I hope it's not too late to wish my readers, Happy Chinese New Year!

I have combination to oily skin and finding the perfect moisturizer has been challenging for me until recently I tried seaweed mattifying day cream from the body shop and it worked perfectly so far. L'Occitane products seem interesting I may try them sometime especially their almond skin oil <3

This sounds like a really refreshing product! I'm a fan of the L'Occitane hand creams but haven't tried many of their other products yet but I'm excited to gradually do so. I have dry skin so this probably won't suit me but they might have something similar in store :) Awesome and thorough review.

I have never used a gel moisturizer, but this sounds great. I've tried some other L'Occitane creams, and they never disappoint, so I might be trying this one as well! Thanks for sharing <3 :)

I've tried the seaweed line from Body Shop before, unfortunately it dried out my skin. :( But I'm glad that it works for you! Almond skin oil from L'Occitane seems interesting, their packaging for this range is very cute! haha.

Ooh you should, it's really nice and refreshing! However, I would suggest you to try out the sample of this moisturiser first if you can. ;D

Aww thank you! Actually, they do have! If you less prefer the gel moisturiser, then go for their Angelica Hydrating Cream instead. :D

You're most welcome Melissa. :) I've only tried few products from their skincare range because the price of L'Occitane products in my country are pretty expensive, I just can't allow myself to spend that much! haha, but this moisturiser is sooo good tho! ;P
